Many decades ago, I started teaching in the Miami-Dade County public schools IN AN UN-AIRCONDITIONED  classroom.  I was helped by an experienced teacher who showed me the way since the administration was of course too busy to ever help a teacher.  Soon his grandson will graduate from an excellent university.  Below is a short letter that I wrote to Evan, the grandson of a good friend and mentor.

Hello Evan- Congratulations on your impending graduation.  Your academic accomplishments have been many, but I believe that your real education will begin when you leave the theoretical world of a university for the real world of work.

I am truly sorry that my generation allowed a bunch of congressional crooks to severely damage the U.S. economy.  This will make your task of employment even more difficult.  Hopefully your generation will solve the puzzle and learn to elect some decent and honest congressmen and congresswomen.

I was especially pleased that you had the courage to select a Middle Eastern language as your elective.  That should help you in your job searches.  Best of luck to you.  Enclosure.
