The Catholic Church: A Study of Wealth and Sin

I was quite impressed when Pope Francis stated that the Roman Catholic Church must strip itself of all ” vanity, arrogance, and pride” and humbly serve the poorest in society.  The Pope stated that he wants today’s Catholic Church to resemble Francis of Assisi’s ” Church of the poor.”

After listening to the Pope’s words, I decided to find out exactly who is the richest of the rich in the world today.  Surely the richest organization in the world would be able to give some of their vast wealth to help the poor.

Research revealed that the largest financial power on the face of the earth is none other than the Roman Catholic Church.  It is amazing that an instution that claims to represent the teachings of Jesus Christ is so top heavy in wealth.  To have some idea of the net worth of the Roman Catholic Church, we must take all of the assets of Exxon Mobil Corporation and then add them to all of the assets of General Electric Corporation and then add the assets of Microsoft Corporation and then add the assets of ATT and then add the assets of Boeing Corporation.  Now take that massive sum and multiply it by ten and you will have a close approximation of the net worth of the Catholic Church.

The Vatican has billions of shares in U.S. corporations that comprise the U.S. S&P 500 stock index.  The Vatican also owns massive real estate holdings throughout the world.  Also, the Vatican has billions of dollars in gold which is held not only in the Vatican Bank, but also in banks throughout the world.

A priest made the following statement some years ago at the New York Catholic Conference:  ” The Catholic Church is the biggest corporation in the United States.  We have a branch office in every neighborhood.  Our assets exceed those of U.S. Steel and ATT combined.  Our roster of dues paying members must be second only to the tax rolls of the United States government.”   This quote is outdated.  What the priest failed to state is how rapidly the Roman Catholic Church has managed to grow their wealth in the past thousand years !

I would hope that Pope Francis would sell some of the massive assets of the Church and help the poor.  However, I seriously doubt that this will happen.  The Catholic Church is clearly in the business of wealth accumulation and not very much in the business of helping the poor.

Also, the Roman Catholic Church has been busy in the 20th Century hiding pedophile priests from civil law enforcement.  Sometimes the Catholic Church can act very quickly.  The Vatican and the Catholic Church helped establish escape routes for Nazis fleeing Europe at the end of World War II. French Cardinal Eugene Tisserant and Argentine Cardinal Antonio Caggiano were especially good at helping their Nazi friends escape allied justice.  The readers are directed to the article on this website titled: ” The Vatican and Their Nazi Friends.”  Also interested readers can simply type the word ‘ Vatican ‘ into the search box on the top right side of the home page.  Click go and sixteen articles will appear about the Catholic Church and pedophile priests and other illegal activities by the Catholic Church.

Father Gabriele Amorth was the Vatican’s chief exorcist for many years.  Father Amorth said that satanic infiltration included power struggles at the Vatican as well as ” cardinals who do not believe in Jesus and Bishops who are linked to the Demon.”  Father Amorth stated very clearly that sex abuse scandals in the Roman Catholic Church are proof that ” the Devil is at work in the Vatican.”   I wonder how any true Christian could disagree with Father Amorth?

                            R. Van Conoley ( Editor’s note:  The book titled: ” The Godfather” by Puzo brought about several movies based on the book.  The last ” Godfather” movie took place in the Vatican.  Many people failed to see that the movie was implying that organized crime was finally taking over the largest and wealthiest organization on the face of the earth, The Vatican. ”
