Edmund Burke stated: ” Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. ” George Santayana stated: ” Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. ” History is important to know and even more important to understand. I wonder how many of these 20 to 25 year old university protestors, who think that they know everything, would recognize the name of Spiro Agnew ? Spiro Agnew was the 39th. Vice President of the United States from 1969 to 1973. He served as vice president under President Richard Nixon.
Agnew ( 11-9-18 to 9-17-96 ) was born in Maryland and was graduated from John Hopkins University and the University of Baltimore School of Law. He sleazed his way up the political scale from the County Board of Zoning Appeals to the elected office of Baltimore County Executive. In 1966, Agnew was elected as governor of Maryland. In 1968, Richard Nixon selected him as his vice presidential running mate.
Like many U.S. politicians, Agnew was a crook. Throughout his political career, Agnew accepted bribes. In 1973, after Nixon and Agnew were re-elected for a second term, Nixon began to feel the heat for his role in the Watergate Break-in. Sane and sensible people knew in 1973 that Nixon might be impeached or forced to resign for his role in the Watergate scandal. Suddenly Agnew came under intense scrutiny by the U.S. Attorney for the state of Maryland on charges of : 1) Extortion, 2) Tax fraud, 3) Bribery, and 4) Conspiracy.
On October 10, 1973, Agnew was allowed to plead ” no contest ” to a single charge that he failed to report income received in 1967 ! The agreement required Agnew to resign as Vice President. Clearly the U.S. Attorney had enough evidence of criminal wrongdoing to put Agnew in jail for the rest of his life. Yet Agnew never served a day in jail.
Nixon then appointed Jerry Ford as vice president. When Nixon resigned the office of president, Ford became president and shortly thereafter issued a complete and total pardon for Richard Nixon. While many individuals associated with criminal acts relating to Watergate were sentenced to jail, Nixon never served a day in jail.
Hillary Rodham Clinton ( born October 26, 1947 ) served as the 67th. Secretary of State under President Obama from 2009 to 2013. She was previously elected to the U.S. Senate from New York and is married to former President Bill Clinton. Ms. Clinton is presently under investigation by the FBI for allegedly violating U.S. Laws by keeping classified and highly classified materials on her private computer.
FBI Director James Comey is a man of honesty and integrity. Director Comey was appointed by President Obama who praised him as a man of high integrity. It is Comey’s job to coordinate an FBI investigation into Ms. Clinton’s use or misuse of her private computer
. It is the view of Sanityandsense.com that Director Comey will issue a complete and just report relating to Ms. Clinton. It is also the view of Sanityandsense.com that Ms. Clinton violated a number of federal laws. However, if Ms. Clinton were to plead no contest to all charges, she should not have to serve any time in jail. Since Nixon ( a crook ) and Agnew ( a crook ) were never tried or jailed, why should Ms. Clinton not be allowed to plead no contest ?
I do not support Ms. Clinton and I would never vote for her. However, Sanityandsense.com believes that Ms. Clinton should only be indicted and tried if she continues to claim that she is innocent when overwhelming evidence indicates that she is guilty. Hopefully, Director Comey’s report will be issued before the first presidential primary on February 1, 2016.
R. Van Conoley ( Editor’s Note: Should Director Comey’s report state that Ms. Clinton through her actions allowed foreign governments to access classified U.S. Intelligence, then Sanityandsense.com would support her indictment in hopes of a guilty finding and an appropriate jail sentence. )
