The U.S. Stock Market – 2016 Week 1

In the first week of 2016, the U.S. Stock market was down significantly.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average ( DJIA ) lost 1,079 points.  The S&P 500 Index lost 121 points.  The NASDAQ lost 346 points.

The same data on a percentage basis is as follows.  The DJIA was down 6.2%.  The S&P 500 Index was down 5.92%. The NASDAQ was down 6.92 %.

The market price for a barrel of oil is approaching a level where it drops below the $ 30.00/barrel level.

Hedge funds are selling stocks to pay individuals who are closing their accounts.

Markets in China have stopped trading twice since 2016 started.

There is a saying that goes like this.  As the first week of January goes, so goes the month of January.  As January goes, so goes the year.
