U.S. Senate Race – Tennessee Primary

This website is covering four U.S. Senate races in 2018.  Each race is considered a toss-up.

On August 2, 2018, Tennessee held their primary elections. In the race for the U.S. Senate, Marsha Blackburn won the Republican primary with 84% of the party vote.  Phil Breedesen won the Democrat primary with 91% of the party vote.

Mr. Breedesen served two terms as governor of Tennessee and remains popular with the voters.  Ms. Blackburn served as a U.S. Representative from Tennessee and is popular with the voters.

The Democrat party believes their candidate could be elected because citizens desire a change in direction in the U.S. Senate. The Republican party believes that their candidate could be elected because Donald Trump won Tennessee by a huge 26 points in 2016 and President Trump has a growing 56% approval rating in Tennessee.  Ms. Blackburn was endorsed by President Trump.

This senate race is considered a “toss-up.”
