The State Of The Union Speech

On February 5, 2019, President Donald Trump gave an 82 minute State of the Union Speech.  Almost 80% of Americans who heard the speech rated it outstanding or very good. It was one of the best speeches ever delivered by President Donald Trump.

Sitting behind President Trump were Vice President Pence and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Sanityandsense.com believes that Nancy Pelosi can be a big winner or a big loser in the remaining days before the U.S. Government again runs out of money due to congressional lack of financial appropriation.  This website believes that Speaker Pelosi would be a big loser if she fails to compromise with President Trump in any way.  Also, if Speaker Pelosi fails to fund any portion of the border wall, she will do serious harm to the future 2020 Democrat candidates.

However, if Speaker Pelosi allows a bill to pass the House that appropriates to President Trump $3.5 Billion or $4.0 Billion for wall construction, she will be viewed as a person who can compromise with the Executive Branch of our government.  This would greatly enhance the image of the Democrat Party in the 2020 Presidential election.  A sum of $4.0 Billion is entirely insufficient for much construction.  Yet, President Trump is not in a position to reject this paltry sum or he would be the one viewed as unable to compromise.

R. Van Conoley  ( Editor’s Note: The Speaker of the U.S. House is second in line to the office of President. The Vice President is first in line followed by the Speaker and then the members of the President’s Cabinet follow. By tradition and sensible caution, one member of the President’s Cabinet is designated as the survivor and does not attend the State of the Union address.  The designated survivor remains in a remote location and would become the acting President should a catastrophic attack happen during the State of the Union address. )
